Inyo County California Hiking Trails
|
Located within the White Mountain Ranger District of the Inyo
National Forest, Lamarck Lakes Trail begins in the campground
and travels south across two footbridges and through a grove of
aspen trees. Views of Mt. Emerson and the reddish Piute Crags
are available from the upper parts of Lamarck Lakes Trail where
the trail travels among the sheer cliffs of granite and rough
boulder slopes. Lower Lamarck Lake lies in a small granite
basin. Continuing along Lamarck Lakes Trail to the Upper Lamarck
Lake, crossing the stream and outlet along the way.
To reach Lamarck Lakes Trailhead from Hwy 395 in Bishop
California, turn west onto Line Street (Hwy 168) and travel 18
miles to Lake Sabrina. Turn right at
the North Lake turnoff (Sabrina
Basin Trailhead). Lamarck Lakes Trailhead parking is located by
North Lake, near the pack station, while the trailhead is about
0.5 miles farther in the North Lake Campground.
Piute Pass Trail is also
located here.
